Why I Built GridMate
My name is Aaron Cummins. Before GridMate, I spent years installing solar, batteries and EV chargers in homes across NSW.
In that time, I sat at kitchen tables with hundreds of homeowners, and I kept hearing the same questions:
- Which electricity plan should I actually be on?
- What does this charge on my bill even mean?
- Is solar or a battery really worth it for my house?
- Am I getting good gear at a fair price, and will it actually be installed properly?
- How do I reduce my bill without getting talked into something?
Most of the answers people were getting came from whoever was trying to sell them something a retailer, a comparison site with a hidden commission, or a salesperson with a quota. Nobody was just explaining it straight.
GridMate is what I wished existed back then: a tool that reads your actual bill, understands your actual household, and gives you a straight answer in plain English, without an agenda.
It combines bill analysis, household information and independent plan comparisons sourced directly from the Australian Energy Regulator's official plan data, not scraped or estimated to help people understand their electricity and make better decisions.
That's also why GridMate now reviews solar and battery quotes. The solar and battery market is full of good products sold at inflated prices, and cheap products sold as premium, and even a great product installed badly can leave you worse off. We check both what you're being sold and whether the install itself is being done right, so you're not left guessing or relying on the same salesperson's opinion of their own quote.
